Report on the 1994 activities

On May 13th and 14th, 1994, a workshop on Coordinates for Historical Maps was held at the European University Institute (EUI) in Florence, Italy. It has had 25 participants from 14, mainly European, countries, approximately 50% were AHC members. The aim was to initiate activities for

The papers of this meeting are published in a volume of the Halbgraue Reihe. The first workshop may not have achieved completely all its objectives, but it is hoped that it made the first step for ongoing efforts in this direction.

The next meeting of the workshop should focus more on methodics and the way of providing maps for exchange, it will be held at the EUI next May. In the meanwhile efforts will be undertaken to set up a 'clearing centre for European historical maps' by firstly collecting information about existing data for historical maps and providing access to them via WWW, a first draft of a questionaire therefore was discussed at Nijmegen.
